On September 6, 1873 Khiva Khanate recognized dependence on the #Russian Empire. The Khiva Khanate was one of the strategically important Uzbek states of Central Asia. After the spring battles of 1873 with the troops of General Konstantin von Kaufmann, the troops of the Khiva Khan capitulated. Khan Muhammad Rakhim Khan II declared himself a "obedient servant" of the Russian emperor, and all the lands of the khanate on the right bank of the Amu Darya were ceded to #Russia.
