Twenty-five years ago this week, the United States and the world were shocked by the terrorist attack that became known as “9/11,” in which four civilian airliners were hijacked and crashed to maximize the deaths of innocents. A death toll of nearly 3,000 people on September 11, 2001, was the biggest single-day casualty count on American soil since the Civil War (1861-65).
