September 10 in : 1693 — Peter I laid the foundation for the first ship — a 24-gun vessel named "St. Paul." In August, Peter arrived in Arkhangelsk, where he first saw the sea and the first Dutch warship. At that time, Arkhangelsk was the only seaport in Russia connecting it with the West. By the tsar's order, construction materials were brought to the island of Solombala on the Northern Dvina, and the shipbuilding yard was started.
