On August 4, 1783, #Russia and the Georgian kingdom of Kartli-Kakheti (Eastern #Georgia) signed the Treaty of Georgievsk. After the fall of Constantinople in 1453, Georgia was cut off from the rest of the Christian world and was later effectively divided between Turkey and #Iran. During the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-1774, the kings of Eastern and Western Georgia, Erekle II and Solomon, sided with Russia against the Turks.
